What to do if your power goes out? Check your safety switch.

If you have lost power, the first thing you should do is check to see if your safety switch has tripped.

  1. Reset your safety switch and see if it stays on. NOTE: Some newer types of safety switches only click off to a middle intermediate position when they trip, and you need to switch them all the way ‘off’ to reset before switching them back on.
  2. If it clicks off again, go room by room and unplug EVERYTHING (including dishwashers, air conditioners, gas stove igniters, stove rangehoods, clothes dryers and pool pumps).
  3. When you are 100% sure that everything has been unplugged, turn your safety switch back on again.
  4. If it stays on, you can go through the property plugging one item back in at a time and check when the switch trips to identify the problem appliance. Try plugging in a radio or TV first and turning  up the volume, that way you can hear when it turns off while you are plugging appliances back in.
